The NEW Ruger Precision Rimfire .22LR Modular Rifle

The brand new Ruger Precision Rimfire could become one of 2018’s most popular rifles, if the success of its “big brother,” the centerfire Ruger Precision Rifle, is any indicator. Shortly after we received our first order of these rifles, the first one walked out the door with a customer within just hours. So, we have no doubt it will be a popular rifle.

This .22LR rig offers a turn-key rimfire solution for tactical shooters, PRS competitors, and anyone who likes modular rifles. The Ruger Precision Rimfire rifle offers an adjustable cheekpiece and length of pull, an AR-style grip, a free-floating MLok handguard, and an 18″ barrel (1:16 twist rate) that is pre-threaded for your favorite muzzle brake or suppressor. You get all this from Crusader Tactical for a mere $435.00 at retail (MSRP is $529.00). As this post is being written, we just watched another one walk out the door with a customer. If you know you want to purchase this rifle, please call the shop at 918-872-9993 to make sure we have one in stock because they don’t stay on the shelf very long.

For PRS shooters and Ruger Precision Rifle owners, this may be an ideal rimfire cross-trainer, with ergonomics and balance like their centerfire rig. This PRS-style .22 LR rig has some very interesting features, including adjustable bolt throw that lets shooters change from a rimfire 1.5″ bolt throw to a short-action centerfire 3″ bolt throw, reducing the chance of short-stroking your bolt in competition. The Ruger Marksman trigger adjusts from 2.25 to 5.0 pounds.

Pros and Cons of the Ruger Precision Rimfire Rifle

Pros: If you are shooting offhand, or from barricades, this kind of modular stock makes sense. This rifle also gives owners a nice option for low-cost rimfire cross-training. Ease of barrel swapping is a good feature. The fact that you can use Ruger 10/22 mags is a big plus. The adjustable bolt throw, if it’s 100% reliable, is a good idea for cross-training.

Cons: Some people may not like this kind of stock for shooting from the bench or shooting from prone with a rear sandbag. Many people may prefer a more conventional stock with a flat fore-end and a straight, smooth toe on the buttstock (not a picatinny rail on the underside). The barrel attachment system may, initially, limit aftermarket “drop-in” barrel options.
